Clones Town into yet another Coffee Cup Final

Clones Town 6; Monaghan Town 2 The first team are into the Coffee Cup final on Friday after this excellent win over Monaghan Town. The team were on top from start to finish, and in truth, the score could've been higher. In the first half, the team dominated from the first whistle, pressing and pushing for an early goal, and it didn't take long for the breakthrough to come. Man of the match Sarto Quigley started a brilliant move down the right hand side, and the right-back found himself on the end of the move, slotting home through the keeper's legs. Monaghan were struggling to create any of their own chances in the opening half, as Clones attacked in droves looking for a second to take total control of the game. That second goal came just before the interval, when a well worked move left Sean Duffy in the clear, and he coolly lobbed the keeper from 25 yards with a smart finish, to leave Clones in the driving seat, 2-0 up at the break. After half time, Clones were slow to start, as Monaghan began to finally enjoy a spout of possession, and they pegged a goal back within five minutes of the restart after Clones failed to clear their lines. However, it didn't take the team long to get back on top, and they added their third goal of the game soon after, courtesy of Simon Douglas. The Monaghan keeper's kick-out was wayward, and Douglas finished sublimely from the left wing from all of 35 yards, leaving the scurrying keeper with no chance. Substitute Carl Woods came off the bench to add Clones' 4th goal of the game, when he beat the offside trap, rounded the keeper, and put the ball in the back of the net. The game now at 4-1, and Clones were cruising. Monaghan did manage to pull another goal back a few minutes later to leave them with a glimpse of hope, but when Woods again rounded the keeper with ten minutes to play to make it 5-2, the game as a contest was now over. Woods added Clones' 6th goal of the game, to complete his hat-trick approaching full time, to leave the score at 6-2. Clones were totally on top from start to finish, and the score line reflected that at the final whistle. They now play Enniskillen Town tomorrow, Friday, at 7pm in Lisnaskea, best of luck to the lads as they bid to retain their Coffee Cup title. Sean Monaghan
